With Brazil it is as if each time is the first time. They know how to captivate. Intoxicate. Drug. It is unbelievably colorful, theatrical, it engages all the senses and plays on the whole register of emotion. It rouses life through contrast and contradictions. The summit of this experience of the intensity of life, carnival, is in Brazil always associated with an indefinable nostalgia which is the shadow of the other world, a whiff of death.Leszek Kolankiewicz, Samba With the Gods
