In April, we are heading to Rome to perform two of our productions – Refuge 2025 and Commander. Both performances will be part of the prestigious In Levare dance season, curated by Valentina Marini as part of the National Dance Production Centre Orbita Spellbound programme.

In Levare: A Platform For European Dance Innovation

In Levare is a special dramaturgical line focusing on contemporary dance and movement projects from all over Europe. It emerges within the Orbita Spellbound broader cultural programme, which brings together different contemporary art forms and offers a space for international dialogue and new artistic formats. This programme takes place under Spellbound Contemporary Ballet, a major institution in the field of contemporary dance in Italy.

The dramaturge of In Levare is Valentina Marini, a respected producer and cultural manager who has long been dedicated to supporting innovative projects in the field of contemporary dance and theatre.

"In levare" in music means "on a light beat", to start "in levare" is to put the emphasis on a weak note. The dramaturgical line named with this term wants to emphasize the weak tone that escapes the dominant – crushing, overwhelming – rhythm. In Levare is also a rebellion against injustice, a communal uprising – accompanied by the gracefulness of a warm wind at sunrise.

We will present two distinctive works

Within In Levare, we will present two works that resonate thematically with audiences beyond the borders of the Czech Republic, as they relate to pressing European issues – refugees and radicalisation (not only) in the online space. On Tuesday 15 April we will perform Refuge 2025 and two days later Commander.

Refuge 2025 is our latest production, based on authentic testimonies of people forced to leave their homes. At the same time it goes beyond this specific topic. It focuses on the inner experience of a person who loses their certainties, undergoes a fundamental transformation and searches for a new meaning and place in the world. The movement creates an emotional statement about uncertainty, courage, fragility and hope. It is a story of loss and finding refuge again – both external and internal.

Commander is a production about power, obedience and collective dynamics, divided into two parts. The first is a dance performance, where through movement, rhythm, and group energy we play out the mechanisms of authority and submission. The second part is a film screening with child actors, featuring authentic dialogue from the online chats of a real extremist group, led by a then 13-year-old boy. Together, the two parts create a multi-layered insight into the digital darkness that affects us on a physical and emotional level.
